Achieving Excellence Together

We have had an incredible first term at Manor High School. Buoyed on by our examinations successes, we have set off on a journey to beat this year’s record breaking SATs and GCSE results. Our Year 6 students have settled in fully – a process which takes only a couple of weeks at Manor High thanks to our enlightened system of vertical tutoring. All of the best schools deploy this method of tutoring because it fosters peer support and guidance and builds confidence and leadership skills. Each year, the system becomes stronger as new year groups are nurtured through and the ethos grows and spreads.

Manor High is an academic school and has a reputation for excellence but a key part of my role is to ensure that the students have lots of opportunities for fun and creativity. We are also very keen to develop the whole child and build character. With this in mind, we deployed the services of Humanutopia who worked with our older students to train them as “Heroes”, or mentors, who then work with younger students to build confidence, employability and life skills. All of our younger students were encouraged.

Every student had the golden opportunity for a photograph with the English Premier League Trophy which came to our school for a whole day courtesy of Barclays Bank and Mr Sonpal. This was on the day on which Leicester City maintained their 100% record in their evening match against Porto in the UEFA Champions League.

Finally, we were delighted to welcome Adam Walker back to our school to inspire our Year 6 students as they embark upon their 6 year journey with us to GCSEs. Adam led a session for staff back in January in which he helped us to develop resilience. He did the same with the Year 6 students so that they would develop character and confidence. Resilience is so important for young people these days as they face so many challenges in a rapidly changing world.

Fortunately for our students, they are in a small and focused setting with high expectations and strong values. This means that they are secure in an excellent school with an unbroken passage through the 16 with an abundance of provision and choice beyond. Our students have enjoyed an excellent start to the academic year and we have provided a strong platform for outstanding success.
