Success for our STEM Students!

Manor High School students win STEM Challenge Final 2023, held at the University of Greenwich.

In June 2022, Manor High School entered three teams into the Leicestershire Science & Technology Challenge Day hosted by Gateway College. This day consisted of a number of challenges including an e-fit challenge, a medical emergency scenario, and programming and building a robot to negotiate a maze. Three of our students were members of the overall winning team: Jack Gardner (Y10), Mia Schalch (Y9), and Niamh Karim (Y9); each student was presented with a regional final trophy.

Following on from this success we were invited to the Challenge Final which was hosted by the University of Greenwich at the Royal Naval College campus in London, on Thursday 5th January 2023. At this event our three students competed against the winning teams from four other southern Challenge events.

The team excelled in an extended robot programming challenge, using the robot’s sensors to negotiate a series of obstacles, and undertake tasks around a maze - only three teams over the past 10 years of this competition have managed to complete the challenge! Not only did our Manor High School students excel and complete the challenge, they also completed in a record time.

Our team was commended for the team ethic, their communication skills, and problem-solving abilities; all of these skills can be accredited to the ‘Manor High Way’.

Manor High School were awarded first place in this 2023 Final and presented with individual glass trophies.

Congratulations to all involved including Mr Tara, Mr Franklin, Mr Chohan, and Mr Faruk for their participation in supporting the students onto this National success.
