Students are asked to regularly test at home, every 3-5 days. They are given testing kits to take home. Additional kits can be requested from reception at anytime. 

To maximise safety within school, we ask that they take tests every Sunday evening and Wednesday evening, to ensure testing is done every 3-5 days and before they return to school each week.

Your child should continue testing twice a week at home until further notice, including throughout the school holidays. 

Students should take the test twice every week. You need to report test results.

• Students aged 12-17 should do the test themselves with adult supervision. The adult may help the student to take the test if they need support.

• Students aged 11 must be tested by an adult and the adult must report the result.

We will give students a leaflet with instructions on how to do the test with the kit. There is also a useful video to show you how to take the test here.

We have produced a flyer with QR codes to make it quick and easy to register your child’s results.

Help and support is available, including instructions in different languages on how to test and report the results. 

There is no need to keep used test equipment after the test result has been reported. You can put it in your normal bin (household waste).

This does not replace symptomatic testing. If you have symptoms, you should self-isolate immediately, book a PCR test and follow national guidelines.   

There are three outcomes from tests: positive, negative or void.

Positive results

A positive result is when a line can be seen next to the T on the device. The line can be strong or weak. Please see the interpreting results sheet to see real world examples.

If anyone tests positive then you, your household and any support bubbles you are part of should self-isolate immediately in line with NHS Test and Trace guidance for 10 days.

You need to report your result to both NHS Test and Trace and the school.

You should order a confirmatory PCR test if you are testing at home (confirmatory PCR tests are not needed if the test was conducted at the Asymptomatic Test Site at school).

Negative results

Negative results should be reported to both NHS Test and Trace and the school.

A negative result does not guarantee that you are not carrying the virus. So, you should continue to follow social distancing, and other measures to reduce transmission such as wearing a face mask and regularly washing your hands and observing social distancing.

Void results

If the result of the test is unclear (void) there will not be a line next to the C on the device.

You should do another test. 

Symptoms

LFD testing should not be used if the individual is showing any symptoms of COVID.

If you or anyone in your household gets symptoms of the virus you should follow national guidelines on self-isolation and testing.

Taking part in testing is voluntary and you will be able to attend school whether you take part in testing or not. I am strongly encouraging all students to take part. Testing yourself at home will allow us to reduce the spread of the virus.

Testing in school has already showed the effectiveness of lateral flow testing, where we have identified a number of asymptomatic cases and been able to prevent the further spread of COVID.

With the support of parents and students administering the LFT tests, we will be able to identify asymptomatic cases that would otherwise have been unknown.

This means that the person is not moving around the school infecting others and their family can take protective measures to stay safe.

It means that the system works and that we have been able to support the national strategies to limit the spread of COVID infection.  

A reminder that regular rapid testing is now also available for parents, their households and support or childcare bubbles. The government is encouraging all families to participate in twice weekly testing to help stop the spread.

Parents and other adults in the household can access tests by:

• Getting an assisted test at work, if it is available
• Attending a test site to get tested (where you will be able to see how to take the test) or pick up tests to do at home.
