Dear Families
I write to you this afternoon after a hugely changeable week- will it snow, won’t it snow? Thankfully, it didn’t snow and school continued as normal. Obviously we will always endeavour to keep our site open if we can guarantee safety. If we did find ourselves in the situation of having to close the school site we would communicate this with you via email and also via our social media streams as soon as we possibly could.
There have been many events that have occurred this week, we have had celebration Friday again this week. Students continue to collect numerous awards and demonstrate their excellent conduct. There is a ratio of about 85% positive rewards to 15% sanctions, which is very pleasing to see indeed. Our students are a credit to you and demonstrate our core values consistently well.
This week I met with some local councillors to discuss concerns around parking around the school site to see what the council can do to support us with this. At times, some of the parking is dangerous. They were quite surprised to see and hear about some of the parking issues that we face every day. We are concerned that someone from either Manor High or Brookside will be hurt as a result of having to weave between cars parked on pavements. Residents also have expressed concern about people parking across their drives (and in one case actually on their driveway!). Whilst many parents do park responsibility and respect the Highway code there are a few that do not and put lives of children at risk. The council are looking at ways to support us, but in the mean time I respectfully ask for you to park sensibly and to encourage your child to walk a little bit further to you to prevent the congestion around school.
In more positive news, I mentioned in the weekly update a couple of weeks ago that we had experienced a review of the school carried out by a well known organisation called ‘Challenge Partners’. Experienced Senior Leaders from schools nationally (five in total) arrived in our school to conduct a formal review of our school.
The feedback was very positive. Some snippets are below…..
Relationships with staff are strong. One student said, ‘We like how the staff speak to us in a really positive and understanding way’.
The headteacher provides insightful leadership and is very ably supported by the leaders. Leaders successfully promote the school’s core aim of being an ‘academic and high achieving school’ whilst ensuring that ‘learning is fun’. They successfully promote the school’s core value of ‘Excellence’ not only with excellent outcomes but also with excellent character.
Students contribute to the calm, purposeful learning environment across the school by frequently demonstrating prominent levels of independence and an understanding of the systems in place with a great level of maturity.
The renewed senior leadership team has a clear vision for the growth of the school and has been implementing this in a systematic and reflective way. Leaders know what is going on and are very clear about the strengths of the school and where it can become even better.
Positive attitudes in all lessons demonstrate students’ engagement in their learning, as do their comments which show their deep level of learning, both inside and outside of school. The climate for learning is positive across the school and students feel safe to contribute to learning.
There is a sense of community and real trust among students that their concerns will be tackled, together with confidence in the way decisions are made. One student said, ‘They reach out to us, we don’t reach out to them’.
