Y6-Y7 Transition
Congratulations on becoming a Manor High family. We are keen to welcome you to Manor High and we know that you will be eager to find out information about the school and how we manage your child’s transition from Primary to Secondary school.
Information for new families
Below is additional information that will help the transition process for our new students:
- New student FAQs
- School map
- A virtual tour of the school
- Uniform
- Term dates
- Timings of the school day
We also have a number of videos that our new students can watch to help them get acquainted with the school and our staff:
- A tour of the school with our Headteacher, Mr Powell
- Introducing our House Managers, subject departments and staff
Please also read the following sections:
Start of school information
Normal arrival time for students is 8.30am, although the Study Centre is open from 7.30am.
New students will receive on their first day:
- Student planner
- Timetable – this can be viewed on School Gateway
- E-card – you can add credit on School Gateway
- Lanyard (optional) – these can be purchased on School Gateway
- Full introduction to the school and the Manor High Way
- New students will also have their official school photo taken in the first week. This photo is essential for the students school record.
For new starters who join us mid-term, we ask that they attend slightly later at 9am as this allows their House Manager to give them a full induction into the school before they join their lessons.
Information the school requires
We ask all our new parents to complete our admission form, which also incorporates our parental consents form. This is an online form via a system called Admission+ and will be sent to all parents on being allocated a place at our school. Paper versions can be printed below:
The admission form requests necessary information, which we hold on your child while they are at our school. As you will appreciate, it is vitally important that the information we have is accurate and up to date, so please take the time to fully complete the form ASAP.
Emergency contacts:
We request that we have a minimum of two emergency contacts, including anyone with parental responsibility. You can select their priority order on the form (1 is highest priority).
Communication methods:
We use School Gateway, an online system that allows parents to view a variety of information such as timetables and achievement points earned, as well as make online payments and receive emails or app messages. You can access the system online but School Gateway also offers an app, which we strongly advise you to download. We ask you to provide email and mobile numbers for those with parental responsibility so you are able to access this service.
Additional information:
If there is any additional or sensitive information you feel we should be made aware of, for example, known friendship issues, you can either note it on the admission form or contact Miss Dawes separately (adawes@manorhigh.leics.sch.uk). Any information will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
Our Parental Consent Form ensures that we are compliant with GDPR and data protection laws. This covers a variety of areas where consent is required including photographs and school trips.
School Gateway - required by all parents
Please download the School Gateway app. This is the system we use which allows you to make payments, such as top up your child’s e-card or pay for trips, see their timetables or achievements and message Manor High School. If your current school uses School Gateway, as long as you have given us the same email and mobile number, you should be able to view both your current school account and your Manor High account.
It can also be used to advise of student absence, update your contact details, view reports and more.
School transport
We plan our school bus routes in the Spring term before the academic year applicable. The process starts around March/April and the routes are confirmed in May/June. We plan our route based on the feedback from parents to our survey of interest. Although the routes are similar each year, there can be slight changes. The two routes can be seen on this page.
If you have any queries regarding our bus route, please email: buspass@manorhigh.leics.sch.uk.
Free School Transport
Some families will be eligible for free school transport to Manor High School. To check if you are eligible or apply please visit: https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/education-and-children/school-transport
Free School Meals
Free School Meals are managed by the Leicestershire County Council Free School Meals department.
Details of eligibility and how to apply can be found here: https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/education-and-children/social-care-and-supporting-families/free-school-meals
Please remember, if you are eligible for free school meals and live in the city, it is essential that you reapply via the Leicestershire County Council. Free school meals eligibility does not automatically transfer between the local authorities.
Special Educational Needs
For students with special educational needs, it may be deemed appropriate for the SENDCo, Mrs Mehta, to support the transition of certain students. If you have any questions regarding their transition, please email SEND@manorhigh.leics.sch.uk.
Diary dates 2022
Welcome Presentation Evening – Tuesday 26th April
Sessions at 5.00-5.45pm and 6.00-6.45pm
We invite you into school to listen to a presentation from our Senior Leadership Team all about Manor High. There are two sessions to choose from at 5pm and 6pm. Links to the booking system have been emailed to all parents. Sessions will last around 45 minutes and places do need to be booked. Please arrive a few minutes early as presentations will start promptly.
(Due to the capacity in our hall, we ask that a maximum of 3 people attend, including your child.)
'Getting to know you' Evening - Thursday 26th May
Bradgate & Clarendon – 5.00-5.45pm; Knighton and Watermead – 6.00-6.45pm
We will advise your child (and you) of their House and tutor group in advance of this evening. Siblings of current students will be placed in the same house but not the same form as their older brother or sister.
Our pledge is that students feel secure and happy and settle quickly into our school. On this evening, each student will spend time in their new tutor group for a ‘getting to know you’ session. Whilst the children are meeting their tutor and other new Year 7 tutees, parents will be invited to the Study Centre* to find out about the practical information required to make the transition to Manor High. This will include details on uniform, School Gateway, School Cloud and Satchel:One systems.
(There will be limited capacity at this event for parents. We appreciate your understanding regarding this.)
Induction Days – Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th July
Each day from 8.30am-3.05pm
Our induction days allow our new students to immerse themselves into the Manor High Way over two full days. The first day, they will meet their new tutor group, as well as enjoy some taster lessons. The second day is our whole school Sports Day. Everyone will be competing in various events and activities to win points for their house.
If you have any questions about transition or anything to do with joining the school, please feel free to email Miss Dawes (adawes@manorhigh.leics.sch.uk).
We look forward to welcoming you to Manor High School.
