Headteacher’s Update
Dear Families
We have been focussing on all that is good at Manor High this week. Our rewards trips are currently taking place, with some students bowling, some at Alton Towers. There are inflatables being delivered to site for an afternoon of celebration for the 400+ students who have the best behaviours in each year group. We wanted to allow them some time for celebration of their commitment to our school values and we thank parents for their support with this. We also listened to feedback and have gone slightly earlier this year rather than at the same time as all other schools try to arrange end of term trips, we hope that by doing this we secure a better experience for our students.
I thank parents for ensuring their children attend school every day. Firstly, it allows your child access to the trips and celebrations that are taking place today. Additionally, regular attendance at school means that your child can make the most of their education and improve their chances in adult life. School can also help your child’s social skills such as making and developing friendships.
Good punctuality is also incredibly important. Firstly it is just common courtesy to be on time therefore as adults we always ensure we turn up on time for appointments- it is expected and respectful to do so. Also, good punctuality also helps your child get into good habits for when they enter the world of work. It is important that you are aware that if a child arrives 15 minutes late at school each day, they lose almost 2 weeks of education over the year. Lateness can cause your child embarrassment, sanctions and, in some circumstances, can count as unauthorised absence and lead to penalty notices being issued.
We also said goodbye to our Year 11 cohort last night with their prom at Shearsby Bath- it was a great evening of celebration. Again, attendance at this event was subject to meeting behaviour and attendance standards. Our students conducted themselves admirably and thoroughly enjoyed themselves which was lovely to see.
We have our Barcelona trip departing next week as well as a STEM competition taking place for Year 8 and 9 students at Gateway College with Mr Loweth, so whilst the summer is approaching, we are still extremely busy in school!
With best wishes
Mr S Greiff

Beauchamp City have sent out messages via PS16 instructing students to sign up for their assigned Induction Day. This is only to students who have been offered a place with them. There will be a letter attached to their message, with a QR scan and link for booking.
The Induction days will run on Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July and in addition to that they’ll also be hosting an event for their parents on Wednesday 1 July (evening event). Details have already been sent to their parents separately requesting them to sign up to the evening event, as well as asking them to complete documents relating to student’s permission to leave site.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with admissions@beauchampcity.org.uk, should you have any questions.
Free School Meals
We would like to inform you of important changes to Free School Meals (FSM) from the start of the 2026–27 academic year and to encourage all eligible families to apply as soon as possible. This is necessary even if your child is currently in receipt of FSM.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ENTITLED TO FREE SCHOOL MEALS AND DO NOT RE-APPLY THEN THE ENTITLEMENT WILL END AND THE SCHOOL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOOD TO YOUR CHILD.
From the autumn term 2026, FSM eligibility will expand to all households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household income. There will be two categories:
- Targeted FSM – existing eligibility, which attracts additional school funding (Pupil Premium)
- Expanded FSM – new eligibility under Universal Credit, which provides free meals only
What this means for families
- Current free school meal eligibility ends for all pupils at the end of this term in July 2026 and parents must reapply to retain eligibility from the start of the autumn term
- If you do not complete this check, free school meal entitlement will end
- Families who believe they may now be eligible for FSM under the new expanded scheme should submit an application as soon as possible
- Going forward, applications for FSM must be rechecked annually between 1 June and 1 October to retain eligibility (we will send reminders each year)
- Eligibility lasts for the full academic year once confirmed
- The new scheme for FSM also applies to pupils in school-based nurseries, so these families should also apply if they meet the criteria
- If your child is in KS1 (Foundation, Year 1 or Year 2) you should still undertake the eligibility check if you meet the criteria even though your child currently receives free meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meal programme. This status will then follow them into Year 3 so the school knows that the family is likely to be eligible for FSM from the start of KS2
Applications
- Applications open from 1 June 2026
- We encourage all eligible families to apply as soon as possible
- The application process is quick, easy and confidential and will not affect any other benefits you receive
- To complete an application, you will need your national insurance number (or national asylum support service number), your date of birth and your legal name
If you require further information, please contact the school office.

Careers visits
This week we took two groups of Year 9 students to various employers and workplaces as part of the Unblock Your Futures programme. We visited The Pocklington Hotel on Tuesday 16th June and then visited Parklands Leisure Centre on Wednesday 17th June
The Pocklington Hotel visit
On Tuesday 16th June we took a group of Year 9 students to The Pocklington Hotel in Leicester. Prity and Kyle from The Pocklington Hotel had already been into school and had inspired our students talking about growth mindset, entrepreneur skills, employability skills, how they had created their business and much more. During our visit students were taken on a tour of the hotel seeing how the hotel worked as well as the facilities it had to offer. They also learnt about the history of the building which amongst other things is a former magistrates court right in the centre of Leicester.
Students got to learn about how the hotel works, how it is managed and also learned about the various different employer roles at the Hotel. With this, Kyle and Prity shared information about the hotels earnings and profits as well as reinforcing key messages from their visit to us at Manor. Students then presented their business plans to Kyle and Prity and we must say our students ideas and presentations were amazing. We cannot thank Prity and Kyle enough for their time and this awesome experience. We look forward to working with them again next year.
Parklands Leisure Centre visit Wednesday 17th June
On Wednesday 17th June we took a group of Year 9 students to Parklands Leisure Centre. Nick, Dean, Katie and the team were amazing. Our students were able to:
- Have a tour of the centre facilities (gym, pool, sports hall, climbing area, soft play area) and also got to see the plant room and areas that are key to the running of the site.
- Move around the centre in small groups and asked a range of different staff questions in order to learn more about the different types of jobs available, training and qualifications needed, training gained whilst being employed here and of course things like salary and what it is like to work in the leisure industry.
- Learn about the history of the centre and also how the centre runs / is managed including different employers roles and also some costs associated with running the centre
- Experience an amazing Saving a Life session with included assessing a situation, the recovery position, how to give CPR and how to help someone who is choking.
- Experience Pickleball which was really great!
Lastly, our students presented their ideas around water safety. This challenge was put to them when the Parklands team visited us back at school.
We cannot thank Nick, Dean, Katie and the team enough for their time. This was an amazing opportunity. We cannot wait to work the team again at Parklands again next year.
Performing Arts Trip to DMU Dance Festival
Last Friday a group of our Year 8 and 9 students attended the dress rehearsal of De Montfort University’s Dance Festival performance. The event was produced and managed by students at the university, and featured live performances and installations, including new works created by visiting artist Sara Macqueen-Radford and Christopher Radford from Linden Dance Company, and Mel Knott from the University. This was a great opportunity for our students to experience contemporary dance, and the pieces were thought-provoking; telling stories and giving powerful messages. The standard was very professional with some highly accomplished performers, giving our students an insight into dance as a career pathway. A great afternoon was had by all.
Science Success: Year 9 at Work
We have been so proud of all our Year 9 achievements in science this year. They have been working so hard and it has been a pleasure to watch them learn! This week, groups have been studying cells and using their iPads to take photos of the cells! Their pictures have been amazing and they truly have become scientists in the classroom! Well done.

School Clubs
Alumni
We would love former students to come into Manor High School to talk to students (with staff) about their experiences of post 16 education, university, the world of work and more! If you are interested in helping please contact us!

Celebrating success stories
We endeavour to share our students’ positive stories during tutor time and where we can during assemblies. If a student has achieved or accomplished something please do share it with your tutor. Your tutor will be able to celebrate this during tutor time and share with the relevant Standards and Progress Leader. We can then use some to celebrate with the whole year group in assembly. We have so many amazing students and we want to share as many of their positive stories as we can
Attendance
Make sure you are in school to try and earn your tutor group a non-uniform day. The next competition is for April/May and the winners will be announced after May half term.
Attendance matters – we love seeing our students in school as they are a part of our community and being in school helps them to maintain social interactions and of course progress with their knowledge and understanding in their subject areas. Students are expected to be in school for 190 days per year. Please do avoid taking your child out of school. By being in school students can:
- Develop friendships further
- Interact positively with peers
- Interact positively with staff and learn about developing professional relationships (key future skill)
- Develop key life skills (teamwork, cooperation, communication, achieving success, dealing with setbacks to name a few)
- Develop and improve their knowledge and understanding in a range of different subjects areas (giving keys skills and knowledge for their future)
We have created a document around our attendance procedures which can be found on our web site here: Attendance-procedures-Manor-High-School.pdf This is located in our attendance area on the website which is here: Attendance – Manor High School – Oadby

Send & Safeguarding Update
Last week students had assemblies on Pride Month and why it is important to understand about different communities so that we are able to be respectful and kind to our school and wider community. The response from pupils, as we would expect, has been fantastic and they have once again demonstrated our ethos around ‘Excellent People’. Below is a link we shared via the assembly for students to access if they feel they need any wider support. There is also information on here about how to support your child with any questions they may have.
