SEND

SEND

At Manor High School, our aim for SEND is to equip students with SEND to succeed in school and in life. This sits within our wider school motto of Excellent People, Excellent Results, and reflects our belief that young people achieve best when they are known, understood, challenged and supported.

We are committed to continuously strengthening our approach to supporting students with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We welcome students with a range of needs and are developing a provision that helps learners access school life, build independence and achieve well.

Our approach to SEND is shaped by our school values of Respect, Resilience, Excellence and Inspiration. We seek to understand each student as an individual, listen to their views, work in partnership with families, support students to develop confidence and independence, maintain high expectations, and help young people see themselves as capable learners with a positive future.

Manor High School has a strong academic curriculum, with the EBacc forming the usual curriculum pathway where appropriate. We recognise that some students may need additional support, reasonable adjustments or carefully considered provision to help them access the curriculum successfully.

We take a needs-led approach to SEND. This means that support is based on the individual barriers a student may experience in learning, communication, interaction, physical or sensory access, emotional regulation or confidence. We do not rely solely on labels or diagnoses; instead, we aim to understand each learner as an individual.

Assess, Plan, Do, Review

At Manor High School, support for students with SEND begins in the classroom. We continue to strengthen our shared understanding of high-quality teaching, adaptive practice, clear routines, explicit instruction, scaffolding, strong relationships and high expectations. Where additional support is needed, we use a graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to help identify needs, plan provision, review what is working and consider next steps.

Support for students with SEND is a shared responsibility across the school, with class teachers retaining responsibility for teaching, adapting and supporting learners in their classrooms. The SEND team works closely with students, families, teachers, pastoral staff, senior leaders and, where needed, external professionals. This includes sharing key information through student passports where appropriate, alongside staff advice, classroom strategies and review discussions.

Support may include classroom adaptations, targeted intervention, staff advice, access arrangements, pastoral support and, where appropriate, referrals to or liaison with external agencies. Parents and carers of students on the SEND register are involved in reviewing interventions and provision, and we value their views as part of the graduated approach.
