Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families

As we come towards the final week of the academic year we are still making sure that our students are working hard in lessons and learning. Therefore please don’t think ‘It is the last week of term, they don’t do anything anyway!’. This is not true. Yes, there are some different events occurring, for example our Sports Day on Tuesday and a rewards afternoon but these are also important opportunities for students to build social capital. They are also a chance to enjoy some different activities after working very hard all year around. Students deserve this to occur alongside their regular lessons- which will still be taking place.

We welcome our new cohort of students from their primary schools into Manor High School on Monday and Tuesday and we look forward to them receiving a very warm welcome and having a great couple of days. We have our Sports Day on Tuesday which fully involves our Year 6 students as well as our current students. On Tuesday students should be in school in PE kit. It is also likely to be warm on Tuesday so please make sure that your child brings water, a sun hat or cap to wear outside, and also applies sun cream before they arrive at school. If it is very hot we will break up the activities and build in breaks for students to rehydrate.

As the weather is going to be hot next week we will relax blazer rules for next week. We still expect the rest of the school uniform to be worn, including ties. We will evaluate and contact you later in the week should there be any change to this rule. Make sure please you send your child to school wearing the school uniform to avoid sanctions.

On the final day of term (Friday), as already communicated we will end at 1pm with buses departing at 1.15pm. Food will be available at lunchtime, with a slightly shorter break to facilitate this. As requested by the students we will make this a themed Sporting Attire day where students can come in sports clothes in order to raise money for equipment for our PE department- please make your £1 donation via Arbor or on Friday in person. Charity Bike Ride

We’re proud to share that Mr Daud, Standards & Progress Lead Year 10, will be taking on an incredible charity cycling challenge this summer — riding from Munich to Vienna and covering over 400 miles in just 5 days!

This impressive journey aims to raise £10,000 for Leicester Hospitals Charity in support of the Parent Facilities Appeal at the Children’s Intensive Care Unit. We wish him the very best as he prepares for this amazing challenge.

Free School Meals

We would like to inform you of important changes to Free School Meals (FSM) from the start of the 2026–27 academic year and to encourage all eligible families to apply as soon as possible. This is necessary even if your child is currently in receipt of FSM.

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ENTITLED TO FREE SCHOOL MEALS AND DO NOT RE-APPLY THEN THE ENTITLEMENT WILL END AND THE SCHOOL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOOD TO YOUR CHILD.

From the autumn term 2026, FSM eligibility will expand to all households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household income. There will be two categories:

Targeted FSM – existing eligibility, which attracts additional school funding (Pupil Premium)
Expanded FSM – new eligibility under Universal Credit, which provides free meals only

What this means for families

Current free school meal eligibility ends for all pupils at the end of this term in July 2026 and parents must reapply to retain eligibility from the start of the autumn term
If you do not complete this check, free school meal entitlement will end
Families who believe they may now be eligible for FSM under the new expanded scheme should submit an application as soon as possible
Going forward, applications for FSM must be rechecked annually between 1 June and 1 October to retain eligibility (we will send reminders each year)
Eligibility lasts for the full academic year once confirmed
The new scheme for FSM also applies to pupils in school-based nurseries, so these families should also apply if they meet the criteria
If your child is in KS1 (Foundation, Year 1 or Year 2) you should still undertake the eligibility check if you meet the criteria even though your child currently receives free meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meal programme. This status will then follow them into Year 3 so the school knows that the family is likely to be eligible for FSM from the start of KS2

We encourage all eligible families to apply as soon as possible
The application process is quick, easy and confidential and will not affect any other benefits you receive
To complete an application, you will need your national insurance number (or national asylum support service number), your date of birth and your legal name

First News – Free Access

We are pleased to offer all Manor High students free access to First News — the UK’s award-winning newspaper for young people — from 9^th July to 4^th September. Designed for ages 7–14, the app includes the weekly newspaper, daily news stories (available to read, listen to or watch), a weekly quiz, puzzles and family discussion prompts. It’s a brilliant way to keep your child reading and thinking over the summer holidays, at no cost whatsoever.

Water Safety

As temperatures rise, children and young people may be tempted to cool off in rivers, reservoirs, lakes and other open water locations. However, these environments can be extremely dangerous.

Water safety organisations and emergency services continue to warn of the risks associated with open water, including:

Cold water shock
Strong and underlying currents
Hidden hazards beneath the surface

These dangers can be present regardless of how warm the weather feels.

Thank you for your continued support in safeguarding children during periods of extreme heat.

How do I get involved?

Audition information, including songs and scripts will be shared with members on Showbie. You will also need to fill in the application form.

Audition Dates:

Friday 3rd July: Year 9 and 10 Auditions (3:05pm to 4:15pm)

Wednesday 8th July: Year 7 and 8 Auditions (3:05pm to 4:30pm)

How often will rehearsals be?

You will need to attend 2 after school rehearsals per week, and some lunchtime and tutor time sessions. This will increase to 3 rehearsals in the final weeks and sone Sunday rehearsal.

This will be for the Autumn Term only, starting in August, as the show will be performed in December.

Celebrating success stories

We endeavour to share our students’ positive stories during tutor time and where we can during assemblies. If a student has achieved or accomplished something please do share it with your tutor. Your tutor will be able to celebrate this during tutor time and share with the relevant Standards and Progress Leader. We can then use some to celebrate with the whole year group in assembly. We have so many amazing students and we want to share as many of their positive stories as we can

Attendance

Make sure you are in school to try and earn your tutor group a non-uniform day. The next competition is for April/May and the winners will be announced after May half term.

Attendance matters – we love seeing our students in school as they are a part of our community and being in school helps them to maintain social interactions and of course progress with their knowledge and understanding in their subject areas. Students are expected to be in school for 190 days per year. Please do avoid taking your child out of school. By being in school students can:

Develop friendships further
Interact positively with peers
Interact positively with staff and learn about developing professional relationships (key future skill)
Develop key life skills (teamwork, cooperation, communication, achieving success, dealing with setbacks to name a few)
Develop and improve their knowledge and understanding in a range of different subjects areas (giving keys skills and knowledge for their future)

School Bus Service 2026-27 – Updated 26.06.26

Manor High School have recently undertaken an exercise to appoint a provider for the 2026-27 academic year’s bus service.

We are pleased to announce that following a successful bid, Manor High School has partnered with Passenger Transport Solutions Ltd who will manage this service on behalf of Manor High School.

Passenger Travel Solutions Ltd currently provide the service of MH3, and will from the new academic year also provide the service for MH1 and MH2.

Please note that Manor High School will not be issuing the bus passes, this service will be fully managed and operated by Passenger Transport Solutions Ltd.

Leicestershire County Council Funded Places

Students who are entitled to LCC-funded transport will still need to renew their pass, but they won’t need to set up a direct debit. During the application process at the payment section, there will be an option for parents to select that their child is eligible for LCC-funded transport.

SEN Transport 2026-27

Leicestershire SENA service has advised that there will be changes to the school transport for some of our EHCP learners, please see the attached letter for further information. If you believe your child should be receiving this transport service and you have not received communication from Leicester County Council before the 14^th of August please contact the SENA transport team directly.

Panjabi Language Classes

From September 2026 Panjabi language classes will be available in Oadby. The classes will take place in the evenings, are open to children aged 5+ and cater for all abilities, from complete beginners through to GCSE and A-Level preparation. Students will have the opportunity to develop their speaking, reading and writing skills in Panjabi in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
