Headteacher’s Update
Dear Families
The half term has passed already. It seems to have gone really quickly! We have had so much happen this term. This week finishes with our first FOMO Friday with a sports jersey day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all students. We thank our student leadership team for organising this. They have been a really positive driving force and this is one of many initiatives they have planned across the year.
We would like to remind parents as we approach autumn and winter about our uniform expectations. These can be found on our website here. As it becomes colder, a reminder that hoodies are not allowed in school.
We finished the week with more enrichment opportunities- our Chess Team went to The Market Bosworth School to compete in the annual Leicestershire Schools Chess Competition, they did admirably well and our A Team, made up of Isaac H, Noah J, Nalan D and Yahya A finished as runners up to Leicester Grammar. A special mention goes to Yahya who won all 4 of his matches! A big well done also goes to the other participants Affaan P, Hashir U, Muhammad A, Henry D and Nicholas J who represented the school well and performed admirably!
Also our Year 7s enjoyed an inspiring day in London at the National Gallery on Wednesday. They were able to visit the work of Van Gogh, Monet and Da Vinci. This is core to our vision of building culture capital and giving students experiences beyond school.
Please remember that we are NOT reopening on Monday 26th October to students- it is a staff training day. We reopen to students on Tuesday 27th October at the usual time and look forward to seeing all students again then.
With best wishes
Mr S Greiff

Post 16 school and college open events
Please see a list of local school and college sixth form open events – Open Events 2026.
It was great to have so many Post 16 providers at our event on Thursday evening. If students need any guides or prospectuses we have a number of spares – please see Mr Croucher.
Employability workshop
This week all of our Year 10 students experienced an employability workshop. We had Sam from Young Enterprise come and run this session. It was provided free for us thanks to the Market Harborough Building Society thrive programme. Sam helped students think about their strengths, areas to develop, personality types, CV writing, letter writing and future careers. It was really engaging and we are so grateful to Sam, Young Enterprise and the Market Harborough Building Society for this opportunity.
Sparx Maths Student of the Week
We’re delighted to celebrate this week’s Sparx Maths Student of the Week! This recognition is awarded to Roman of 7.5 who has shown outstanding effort, determination, and commitment to their independent learning on Sparx. Their hard work not only strengthens their mathematical skills but also sets a fantastic example for their peers. Well done – we are very proud of their achievement!

Year 8 Sporting Success: Football & Futsal in Action
Year 8 Interform Football Final Match Report
8.5 lifted the Interform Football 5-a-Side trophy after beating 8.4 5–2 in a thrilling final.
8.4 raced into an early two-goal lead with some Pulis-esque tactics, incredible long throws and some questionable goalkeeping. But Fly Smi, immense as ever, dragged 8.5 level before half-time, taking his tournament tally to an impressive 11 goals.
The second half was tightly contested until an Isaac save fell kindly to Har Win, who smashed 8.5 into the lead. Two unfortunate own goals then effectively ended 8.4’s challenge.
With the crowd buzzing throughout, and special guest referee PierLuigi Barton overseeing proceedings, it was a memorable final and a deserved victory for 8.5
8.3 Crowned girls’ futsal champions
8.3 were crowned girls’ futsal champions after defeating 8.5 1-0 on penalties
8.5 attacked relentlessly throughout the final and created four clear chances to score, but 8.3 defended brilliantly, putting their bodies on the line and showing tremendous determination to keep the scores level.
With neither side able to find a breakthrough, the match went to penalties, where 8.3 held their nerve to secure victory.
The final capped off a fantastic afternoon of football, with both the semi-finals and final providing plenty of drama, excitement, and memorable moments. Congratulations to 8.3 on a hard-fought triumph. 🏆⚽
Brookside Primary School – Open Days

Local Sports Opportunities
We are pleased to share a selection of local sports clubs and activities available in the Oadby, Wigston and Leicester area for students who are looking to continue being active outside of school.
Taking part in sport outside of school is a great way for students to stay active, develop new skills and improve their sporting abilities. There are opportunities available for a range of ages, abilities and interests, whether your child is new to a sport or already has experience.
Please take a look at the posters for more information, including session times, locations and contact details. We encourage parents/carers to contact the clubs directly before attending to confirm current arrangements and availability.
Safeguarding Update
Please see some great resources shared by the VRN (Violence Reduction Network) who are based in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Attendance
Attendance is fundamental to student success. Research consistently demonstrates that students who attend school regularly achieve better academic outcomes than their peers with lower attendance. By being in school every day, students benefit from high-quality teaching, develop their knowledge and skills, make sustained progress, and are far more likely to reach their full potential.
However, the importance of attendance extends far beyond academic achievement. Regular attendance provides students with opportunities to build positive relationships with peers and staff, develop essential social and communication skills, and participate fully in the wider life of the school. Face-to-face interactions help foster a sense of belonging, confidence and resilience, all of which contribute positively to students’ mental health and wellbeing.
Good attendance also promotes routine, responsibility and self-discipline, preparing students for future education, employment and life beyond school. Every day in school matters, and ensuring students attend regularly gives them the best possible chance to succeed both academically and personally.
Our attendance figures for the week ending 9th October
