Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families,

As we begin to approach the midpoint of this half term, I find myself reflecting on the wide range of activities that have taken place in recent weeks. This week, our assemblies have centred around the theme of excellence. In these we have had the privilege of hearing soundbites from our former Year 11 pupils, who have shared their insights and experiences on achieving success. Their narratives, which have culminated in other great set of GCSE results, serve as powerful role models for our current students. This not only instils a sense of pride but also provides inspiration their own academic journeys.

Our commitment to holistic development continues to manifest through our robust extracurricular programme. The sporting arena, in particular, has been a hive of activity, with over 100 pupils actively participating in football and netball clubs beyond the confines of the regular curriculum. This enthusiastic engagement not only fosters physical well-being but also cultivates essential life skills such as teamwork and discipline.

This week we have implemented a focused initiative this week to recognise and reward resilience through our reward systems. This is one of our core values and it is something we have seen in abundance this week.

Our student leadership elections are currently underway. Pupils are exercising their right to vote during tutor time, actively shaping the future of their school. We eagerly await the results of these elections with you in the coming week, celebrating the emergence of our new student leaders.

Looking ahead, I would like to draw your attention to a significant event on our calendar. Our opening evening is scheduled for Thursday, 26th September, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event presents an excellent opportunity for prospective pupils and their families to experience the unique ethos and offerings of our school. For those seeking additional information, I encourage you to visit our website at https://www.manorhigh.leics.sch.uk/admissions/admissions/, for details.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Year 7 Timings

Well done to our Year 7 students on making such a positive start to their Manor High School journey. We have now decided that year 7 students will go out to break and lunch time at the same time as all other students.

Modern Foreign Languages

Next week is an exciting time for the Modern Languages Department, as we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages!

The week of celebrations starts on Tuesday 24th September from 3:05 – 4:00pm with a House Competition for students in Years 7-9, followed by a specially designed French and Spanish lunch menu on the day itself, Thursday 26th September, when students will be able to purchase delicious Spanish Albóndigas or French Ratatouille.

In addition, running weekly on Thursday lunchtimes, we have our Modern Languages Club – Porteek Club (A mixture of Portuguese and Greek language and culture organised by our native speaking teachers) where students will have the opportunity to learn basic language skills, sample Portuguese and Greek cuisine and learn more about these two beautiful countries!

Year 10 Work Experience

In the next few weeks we will be sending out information to do with work experience for our Year 10 students only.

Please note that although year 10 will be engaging with work experience during the last week of the academic year, we will be sending out information and applications forms in the next few weeks. We will also set a deadline for these forms to be with us. This deadline is set by the LEBC* to ensure all paperwork can be processed and placements can be coordinated.

*LEBC – the company who coordinate work experience for us to ensure all placements during school time are safe and appropriate for our students.

Year 11 – Post 16

We have created a list of open events at local Post 16 providers (schools and colleges). Please note this list covers a lot of providers but not all of them. We advised that all students should look at a range of different providers to help them make a more informed decision about where they will apply next year. We have sent this list of open events to students via class charts as well. Please click the link below to view the information.

We will be in touch in the next few weeks about the Post 16 application process.

Toilet Passes

Please be aware that toilet passes are only issued to the few students who have a medical need to have free access to the toilets, ensuring they are able to go at any point during the lesson. Medical evidence will be required.
