Headteacher’s Update
Dear Families
This week has seen another level of activity across school- it has been a bit of a whirlwind week!
On Monday, we were delighted to have 47 of our students invited to De Montfort University, where they, Mr Loweth and Mrs Charlesworth participated in a comprehensive programme designed to encourage the pursuit of Science and Engineering at university level. The students returned to school with enthusiasm and positive experiences to reflect upon. The aim is to inspire students to be aspirational and consider their futures a little more.
Our Year 7 students have also undertaken garden sketching activities on our school fields. These sessions have provided genuine inspiration for our younger students and some of the work they produced can be viewed on our school Facebook page it is impressive!
Yesterday evening, we welcomed huge numbers of visitors to our Open Evening, where prospective families were able to tour the school, engage in conversations with both students and staff and examine the work that students have produced across their lessons. I am always impressed and encouraged by the way our students talk about their experiences at Manor High School, speaking with genuine positivity about their time with us. It makes me very proud that they do this without being asked or prompted. They truly feel like they belong.
Finally, today, we have concluded the European Day of Languages with a breakfast quiz this morning for our Year 7 students. The Languages department have organised a range of activities this week to highlight the importance of languages with students-including Sign Language activities! The study of languages is a core entitlement for all our students at Manor High School. Language learning demands that students take risks, make mistakes, and demonstrate perseverance. When students successfully communicate in another language, they develop confidence, resilience, and independence- these skills are encapsulated in school core values. It is for these reasons that the study of languages is compulsory here at Manor High School.
I have emphasised on numerous occasions that we are committed to enabling students to create positive memories of their time with us beyond the classroom as well as within it. Whilst the odd isolated negative experiences may occur from time to time for some, our response to these challenges is what fundamentally shapes our students’ character and outlook. My aim and desire is that students accumulate a wealth of positive experiences that they will treasure and remember throughout their lives, this week has seen us do exactly that for some.
With best wishes
Mr S Greiff

Safeguarding Update
Last week our Year 7 and 8 students have been part of a Tellmi workshop. Tellmi is an NHS funded service that offers free, safe and anonymous peer and counsellor support to young people aged 11+.
The goal for the workshop is for students to feel empowered and leave with actionable tips to help them create a healthier online experience.
Points covered include:
- The algorithm trap: Recognising that their feed is curated, and how this can lead to bias and impact their mood.
- The signs of digital fatigue: Identifying signs of emotional overload caused by excessive screen time and the dopamine cycle.
- How to curate a healthier feed: Learn practical steps to actively control and diversify the content they see and engage with.
- How to prioritise mental health online: Understand the negative effects of comparison culture and discover how to use the internet for support in a safe manner.
- How to access safe support online: Know how to use moderated, anonymous platforms like Tellmi when they need help and safe advice.
