Headteacher’s Update
Dear Families
Thank you for all of your support with uniform over the last week or so, with the issues around it being rather warm, then not so warm then warm again!! It has been a bit of a difficult time to understand the situation with uniform! Therefore I will keep this message simple- it is going to be hot next week, until Wednesday at the very earliest. Therefore we will revert to students not having to wear their blazers next week. In addition, I have noticed, when visiting lessons, that not many students have water bottles with them and this is something that you may consider giving to your child to bring to school. We do have water stations around the school that students can fill their bottles at-not during lesson times as they must be in classes learning but at breaktimes and lunchtimes this is perfectly acceptable for them to do.
You will be thinking about purchasing new uniform for next year- you should be aware of our uniform expectations when making purchases- they are here. Uniform – Manor High School – Oadby.
Be careful with shoes- this is always a contentious area! Guidance is on the link provided.
There have been a plethora of trips these last few weeks. We have students out on a Science trip with Mr Loweth both today and Monday to the Space Centre, as well as students out at Gateway College yesterday! Our Nice trip is due to return today, they have had a wonderful time. Building that cultural capital is a key part of our drive to make sure students are indeed ‘excellent people’. When we have seen and experienced different cultures it gives us a broad perspective and then we do not judge people from the stereotypes portrayed in the media.
Next week the trips continue, with trips to the space centre and the 350 students that have displayed faultless conduct are off to Alton Towers next week as well. In addition to this reward opportunity we are also having an inflatables reward for some other students who haven’t quite been able to access the Alton Towers trip but still have displayed excellent character across the academic year, this will occur the following week.
We also have had visitors in to school this week to support our desire to have our progress reviewed throughout the year to ensure we continue to make progress. These visitors were made up of Trust leaders, governors and trustees. The consensus was that the school has continued to make progress this year. After a good OFSTED report at this time last year it is important to me (and to you) that we continue to move forward and make improvements. This was noted by the review team who acknowledged that we have indeed continued to move forward across this academic year and continue to provide a very high standard of education for our young people. We will never allow the school to rest on its laurels and not continue to improve. It is our jobs to make sure that every student receives the very best education every single day. Sometimes there are bumps in the road, and mistakes can be made along the way but that is our aim. It is not to satisfy the criteria of external assessments that happen at a moment in time. I want us be the best we can be every moment of every day.
With the very best of wishes
Mr S Greiff

MFL Performance
Last week, we again welcomed the fantastic Onatti Productions to Manor High School, who had performed a French theatre production for our students earlier in the year.
This time, it was the turn of over 200 Year 9 and 10 students to watch a performance of Primera Cita by two native Spanish speakers. There was lots of audience participation, most notably by Josh and Jensen in Y9 – ¡muy bien, chicos! – and students thoroughly enjoyed the performance!
Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Applications
We would like to share important guidance received from the Local Authority regarding Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications.
If you are considering requesting an EHCP needs assessment for your child, we strongly encourage you speak with the SEND team at Manor High in the first instance. They will be able to advise you about the likelihood of an EHCP being awarded and if the school has the evidence to make or support an application.
To ensure that every child receives a thorough, well-informed, and high-quality EHCP, we strongly advise that no new applications—whether submitted by parents or by the school—are not made between May half term and the start of the new academic year.
This is because, as part of the statutory 20-week EHCP process, professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other specialists are required to meet with the child and consult with the school typically between weeks 6 and 12. These meetings and assessments are vital for building a full picture of your child’s needs.
If an application is submitted after May half term, this key 6–12 week window falls during the school summer holidays—a time when schools are closed and professionals have very limited availability. As a result, there is a significant risk that the plan may be based on incomplete advice, which would affect its quality and accuracy. We strongly advise you to wait until the start of the new academic year, when full access to the necessary advice and support will be available.
Thank you for your understanding.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing Updates
“Knives … Me? No Way!”
On Tuesday we had the opportunity to take a group of year 9 and 10 students to Leicester University, for a knife awareness event. The students were fully immersed in the day and shared their positive experience with us afterwards. Guest speakers included Cheryl Armatrading, mother of Antoin Akpom, a promising footballer who was murdered at the age of 20 by a man carrying a knife. Malachi Nunes in particular captivated the audience. Malachi was once affiliated with gangs and youth violence and managed to extricate himself from the situation he was in. He now runs a charity where he mentors young people to stay on the right path. Malachi has also lived with ADHD and learned to use it to his advantage to become successful. We look forward to doing some further work with Malachi, with the wider school community.
CCOZ (Community Chill Out Zone)
This Thursday we began our first of many wellbeing workshops, delivered by Relate practitioners to our students. Starting with our year 10’s and continuing with other year groups next academic year, we want all students to be involved in understanding the importance of having good mental health and the coping strategies that can help during early warning signs of anxiety and low mood. Students shall learn about how our brain processes emotions. Activities will take place around the link of physical and emotional symptoms, breathing and grounding techniques and there will be signposting for any additional support.
MHST Summer Support
Please see the attached posters from the Mental Health Service Team and the available support over the summer break.
Mrs Ghani is Manor High’s Senior Mental Health Lead, please do contact her if you have any questions about the service.
Our students’ mental health is always important, and we try to pass on any new tips/services that can support, as soon as we know.
Young people who self-harm can find it difficult to get the support they need due to long waiting lists from service providers.
“My self-referral” is a confidential way to seek help without needing to see a GP or other health professional.

Alumni
We are really keen for former Manor High School students to share their experiences of the world of work with our students.
If you, a family member or even friend who was a Manor High School student and could possibly help us with this please email us via the Admin email (FAO Mr Croucher).
Many thanks.

Science Club
Unfortunately there will be no Science club in the final week of term.
We look forward to seeing you in the Autumn term. Thank you for all your hard work and commitment for making this year such a success.
Leics Make Music Festival 2025 at De Montfort Hall
Congratulations to Billy, Imogen, Clara, Evelyn, Kirsten and Niamh on your fantastic performances as part of the Leicestershire Music Junior Concert Band, LSSO and Wind Band at the festival this week. It was a pleasure to watch such high-quality ensemble performances from students across Leicestershire, led and conducted by brilliant musicians, including our violin teacher Mike Shaw.
A polite reminder that today is the deadline to complete the instrumental lessons survey if you would like your child to have instrumental lessons in school for the academic year 2025-26. Many thanks for the excellent response we have received so far.
