Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families,
I think it is fair to say that the summer has passed and we have had to very quickly embrace the rapid advancement of autumn. The weather has presented its fair share of challenges for us this week. Not only did the weather try to make us inaccessible to some this morning, by closing major roads to us, it has presented us with some operational challenges. We have managed to navigate these choppy waters (!) and keep positive
The nature of the weather has, regrettably, resulted in some adjustments to our usual routines. Our commitment to promoting outdoor activities during lunch breaks has been challenged during this week, resulting in some ‘indoor breaks’, which we try to avoid, but our outside canopies have been defeated by the weather on occasions. It has also resulted in our school field being restricted due to health and safety considerations. Also, the adverse conditions have impacted our ability to conduct certain PE lessons as originally planned. Nevertheless, the positivity of our pupils and staff, who have never complained, and continue to approach each day with enthusiasm and good humour shone through. It is a shame that the sun has not followed suit!
Despite these meteorological challenges, we have a positive week. The weather tried (and failed) to ‘dampen’ our Open Evening. It was not a ‘wash out’ and proved to be a resounding success, largely due to the remarkable contributions of our pupils. The event saw an impressive turnout of families and student volunteers, each eager to showcase our school to prospective parents. Their testimonials and pride in Manor High were truly inspiring, serving as a powerful endorsement of everything we do. We also thank parents who braved the storms to come and collect their children after open evening at 8pm last night.
In addition to the Open Evening, I have had the pleasure of conducting numerous open mornings for parents over the past fortnight. These visits have consistently reinforced my pride in our school. The energy and enthusiasm within our classrooms, combined with the ever-present smiles of our pupils, have not gone unnoticed by our visitors, who frequently comment on the positive atmosphere permeating our corridors.
This week also marked the European Day of Languages, an occasion embraced by our students and staff. Our catering team rose to the challenge, serving up dishes of Ratatouille and Albondigas to commemorate the day- I can confirm very tasty! Our languages department set up a series of events to mark the day, details of which can be found below.
As we experience seasonal change I politely remind you of our uniform policy. Hoodies, are not part of our official school uniform and are not permitted. We do, however, encourage the use of appropriate autumn/winter jackets when necessary.
Finally, I would like to draw the attention of our Year 7, 8, and 9 parents to an important communication regarding iPads. You should have received an email containing exciting updates on this matter, and I strongly encourage you to read this information at your earliest convenience.
I wish you all a restful weekend, and look forward to more settled weather next week.

Modern Foreign Languages
It has been been an exciting week in Modern Languages as we celebrated the European Day of Languages on Thursday 26th September.
The week started with a Key Stage 3 House competition on Tuesday after school, with 32 students from across the four houses competing to build the best Eiffel Tower from paper straws and cellotape! Winners were announced yesterday with house points awarded as follows:
- 1st Clarendon 400 points
- 2nd Watermead 300 points
- 3rd Bradgate 200 points
- 4th Knighton 100 points
All members of the winning teams also received some MFL prizes and Class Charts points. Thank you to our Year 11 helpers for making the event a success!
On the special day itself, tutor groups across the school participated in a tutor time European Day of Languages quiz; winners will be announced early next week!
Our wonderful catering team also prepared two delicious Spanish and French dishes for the lunchtime menu; albóndigas and ratatouille. The meals went down a treat with staff and students alike!
The day ended with an opportunity to showcase our department to prospective parents and students at the school’s Open Evening. Visitors could sample an array of French and Spanish foods, have a go at some French and Spanish tongue twisters, pose in our photo booth, play a game of pétanque and enter a competition in order to be entered into a mystery prize draw.
Watch this space as, on the back of the success of last year’s Barcelona trip, the department will soon be launching our much anticipated 2025 trip to Nice for Y9 and 10 students!

Student Ambassadors at Open Evening
Thank you so much to all of the amazing students who volunteered to help out at our open evening last Thursday (26th September). We could not accommodate all students who wanted to help but we will have more opportunities in the future. We are so grateful to have so many students who have such great pride in promoting our school.
Chess Club
Just a reminder that Manor High School is hoping to re start our chess club again. Please could any students who are interested in joining this sign up with Mr Croucher. We may even have a tournament coming up too!
Year 10 Work Experience
In the next few weeks we will be sending out information to do with work experience for our Year 10 students only.
Please note that although year 10 will be engaging with work experience during the last week of the academic year, we will be sending out information and applications forms in the next few weeks. We will also set a deadline for these forms to be with us. This deadline is set by the LEBC* to ensure all paperwork can be processed and placements can be coordinated.
*LEBC – the company who coordinate work experience for us to ensure all placements during school time are safe and appropriate for our students.
Year 11 – Post 16
We have created a list of open events at local Post 16 providers (schools and colleges). Please note this list covers a lot of providers but not all of them. We advised that all students should look at a range of different providers to help them make a more informed decision about where they will apply next year. We have sent this list of open events to students via class charts as well. Please click the link below to view the information.
We will be in touch in the next few weeks about the Post 16 application process.
Safeguarding Update
This week we are continuing to focus on staying safe on line, with the focus on sextortion. Sextortion is the financially motivated sexual extortion (often referred to as ‘sextortion’) is a type of online blackmail. An adult (or group of adults) threatens to release nude or semi-nude images of a child unless they pay them money, or do something else to benefit them. It is a form of child sexual abuse. The attached fact sheet tells you more about this as well as signs to look out for.

Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families,
As we begin to approach the midpoint of this half term, I find myself reflecting on the wide range of activities that have taken place in recent weeks. This week, our assemblies have centred around the theme of excellence. In these we have had the privilege of hearing soundbites from our former Year 11 pupils, who have shared their insights and experiences on achieving success. Their narratives, which have culminated in other great set of GCSE results, serve as powerful role models for our current students. This not only instils a sense of pride but also provides inspiration their own academic journeys.
Our commitment to holistic development continues to manifest through our robust extracurricular programme. The sporting arena, in particular, has been a hive of activity, with over 100 pupils actively participating in football and netball clubs beyond the confines of the regular curriculum. This enthusiastic engagement not only fosters physical well-being but also cultivates essential life skills such as teamwork and discipline.
This week we have implemented a focused initiative this week to recognise and reward resilience through our reward systems. This is one of our core values and it is something we have seen in abundance this week.
Our student leadership elections are currently underway. Pupils are exercising their right to vote during tutor time, actively shaping the future of their school. We eagerly await the results of these elections with you in the coming week, celebrating the emergence of our new student leaders.
Looking ahead, I would like to draw your attention to a significant event on our calendar. Our opening evening is scheduled for Thursday, 26th September, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event presents an excellent opportunity for prospective pupils and their families to experience the unique ethos and offerings of our school. For those seeking additional information, I encourage you to visit our website at https://www.manorhigh.leics.sch.uk/admissions/admissions/, for details.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Year 7 Timings
Well done to our Year 7 students on making such a positive start to their Manor High School journey. We have now decided that year 7 students will go out to break and lunch time at the same time as all other students.
Modern Foreign Languages
Next week is an exciting time for the Modern Languages Department, as we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages!
The week of celebrations starts on Tuesday 24th September from 3:05 – 4:00pm with a House Competition for students in Years 7-9, followed by a specially designed French and Spanish lunch menu on the day itself, Thursday 26th September, when students will be able to purchase delicious Spanish Albóndigas or French Ratatouille.
In addition, running weekly on Thursday lunchtimes, we have our Modern Languages Club – Porteek Club (A mixture of Portuguese and Greek language and culture organised by our native speaking teachers) where students will have the opportunity to learn basic language skills, sample Portuguese and Greek cuisine and learn more about these two beautiful countries!

Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families,
What a week we have had this week. We have been incredibly busy and it has been such a week to be proud of, with our students, your children, doing us proud!
Last night, we held our Annual Awards Evening, a special occasion that allowed us to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils. It wasn’t just about academic excellence we also recognised those who have grown as individuals over the past year in all years from Year 7 to Year 11. It’s these personal journeys, the development of character and resilience, that often leave the most lasting impact.
Speaking of character, we’re currently in the midst of an exciting election process for our student leadership team. Our Year 11 pupils have been delivering their manifestos in assemblies throughout the week, pitching their ideas and vision to their peers. The courage and determination displayed as they stand before their peers is truly inspiring. It takes real resilience to put yourself out there, to articulate your thoughts and ambitions in front of an audience. I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and the maturity they’ve shown throughout this process.
As we move into the cooler months, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone about our uniform policy. ‘Hoodies’ are not part of our school uniform and will be confiscated by tutors if worn. Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for school, bearing in mind the changing weather conditions.
I hope you’ve had a chance to read the correspondence sent earlier this week regarding our recent OFSTED report. If you haven’t yet seen the report, you can find it on our website here https://www.manorhigh.leics.sch.uk/about-us/ofsted/ .
I’ve been really grateful for the positive feedback and kind words from many of you over the past few days. Your support and appreciation mean a great deal to us.
Looking ahead, our open mornings are now in full swing, and we’re eagerly anticipating our open evening on 26th September. If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our wonderful school, please do spread the word. We’d be delighted to welcome prospective pupils and their families to experience first hand what Manor High is all about. Further information is here Admissions – Manor High School – Oadby
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We look forward to another busy week next week!
Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families
It’s been a very positive first full week back, and I’m particularly pleased with how our Year 7 pupils are settling in. Most of them are now navigating the school building with confidence, finding their way to classes with ease. This transition is crucial, and it’s heartening to see their quick adaptation to their new environment.
This week, our assemblies have focused on the theme of respect. The responses from our pupils have been incredibly encouraging, demonstrating their maturity and understanding of this essential value. It’s not just in assemblies where we’ve seen positive attitudes; across the school, approximately 4000 reward points have been issued this week alone. This impressive number reflects the superb approach our pupils are taking towards their learning and their conduct in school.
As many of you are aware, we’re currently in the midst of a significant building project. (See image taken from upstairs in the Viking Building this morning).
While this is exciting for our school’s future, it does present some challenges, particularly regarding parking and traffic around the school. Our car park is exceptionally busy due to the ongoing construction work and the resulting absence of parking behind the school. If you need to collect your child for any unavoidable reason, we kindly ask that you park on a street around the school.
Additionally, with a primary school sharing our site, the end of the school day can be particularly busy. We appreciate your cooperation in parking considerately, preferably away from the school site, to ensure the safety of pupils as well as enabling the smooth flow of traffic for all.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to announce our upcoming Open Evening on Thursday, 26th September. If you have friends or family interested in joining our school community, please direct them to our website at www.manorhigh.leics.sch.uk/admissions. There, they’ll find details about the Open Evening and information on the Open Mornings we’re hosting this half term, including how to book.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Your involvement is crucial to our school’s success, and we value the strong community we’re building together.
Have a lovely weekend.

Headteacher’s Update

Dear Families
As we embark on a new academic year, I am delighted to welcome back all our pupils and families. I trust that you have had an enjoyable summer break. It has been a pleasure to see our school community reunited, and we eagerly anticipate the journey ahead and what this year will bring.
The start of term has been particularly exciting with the arrival of our new Year 7 pupils. To facilitate their transition, we have implemented a slightly adjusted schedule for breaks and lunches over the next couple of weeks. It has been fantastic to see their bright smiles as they settle in to Manor High. Equally pleasing to see has been the exemplary behaviour of our older pupils, who have embodied our core values of respect and inspiration by offering support to our newest members during break times and lunches. I witnessed yesterday some of our Year 11 students playing basketball with some of our youngest students- this was great to see!
The summer period has been a busy time at Manor High, with several significant improvements undertaken to enhance our facilities. I am pleased to announce the installation of a brand new kitchen, which will greatly improve our food service capabilities. While our staff are still familiarising themselves with the new equipment, resulting in slightly slower service at present, we anticipate this will improve as they become more accustomed to the new facilities. There are also a few little bits and pieces to complete which are limiting the extent of service, but we do not anticipate this being for a long period.
Another major development is the ongoing construction of our new Sports Hall. We are optimistic that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, this project will reach completion by the summer term. This facility will enhance our sporting provisions and also provide additional classroom space. Naturally, a project of this scale necessitates some temporary adjustments to movement around the school and access to certain areas. It has also placed some constraints on our parking facilities. As such, if you need to collect your child during the school day due to exceptional circumstances, you may need to park on the street and walk to the school gate.
We have also launched a redesigned website over the summer. While the web address remains unchanged (www.manorhigh.leics.sch.uk), you will find the style and content have been refreshed. Do please have a browse.
Lastly, I am delighted to announce the appointment of our new Deputy Headteacher, Ms Helen Newbery. We are thrilled to welcome Ms Newbery to our leadership team and look forward to the valuable contributions she will undoubtedly make to our school community. More information about this is below.
As we start this new academic year, we look forward to working with you and hope that you, like us, are filled with optimism about the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead for our pupils. The improvements to our facilities, coupled with our dedicated staff and the positive ethos of our school community, provide an excellent foundation for a successful year.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can ensure that Manor High School continues to be a place where every pupil can thrive and reach their full potential.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mr S Greiff
Introducing our Deputy Headteacher
I would like to formally introduce myself as Helen Newbery, Deputy Headteacher at Manor High School. I am really excited and enthusiastic about working with your child, yourselves and the wider school community to continue the journey we have started in ensuring we have ‘excellent people and excellent results’. I have been a school senior leader for over 10 years having worked in three other schools, most recently in a school in Leicester City and previously in schools in Kent. I have a range of experience in leading whole school responsibilities, such as teaching and learning, quality assurance and standards, and most recently, pastoral care and safeguarding. As well as many whole school responsibilities I hold here at Manor, I am also the schools Designated Safeguard Lead, and will oversee the safeguarding provision we have at Manor as well as work collaboratively with Mrs Ghani on any safeguarding issues that arise. Ensuring that students feel safe and supported is a fundamental to the success of any school, and I am looking forward to continuing the great work and practice that has been in place, as well as looking at new provisions.
I am really thankful for the welcome the students have given me and look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year
Year 7 Timings
We have been allowing year 7 to work with the following timings and this will continue up to Friday 6th September. They help our Year 7 get used to routines in and around school and this aids the transition process.
Session one: finish at 10:35am and go out to break early. Classroom staff will accompany them for the earlier part of break.
Session two: finish at 12:30pm and go out to lunch early. Classroom staff will accompany them for the earlier part of lunch.
Session 3: finish at 3pm. Classroom staff to start escorting year 7 students to the front of school, slightly ahead of all other year groups.
From the w/c Monday 9th September these timings will not be in place – year 7 will follow the normal school day timings.
Thank you.
Post 16 and Careers Update
Post 16 – Year 11

Please ignore the previous dates they have published.
Year 11 1:1 Careers Meetings
Each year we offer all of our Year 1 students a 1:1 careers meeting with a level 6 Careers Advisor. Our careers advisors work for MyPath which is a team that solely focus on career education.
This year we are spreading careers interviews over a longer period than usual. Students should not worry if they do not have an appointment time yet. We hope that by Friday 6th September we can let all students know when their session will be.
The 1:1 sessions start on Monday 2nd September and we then have dates through September, October, November and the first week in January.
These sessions will help our Year 11’s think about their futures as well as help them with the Post 16 decision process. More information about the Post 16 process will come out soon.
Uniform
We have had a really positive first week back at school. Students engagement and behaviour have been excellent and it has been a joy to welcome the year 7’s who are already settling in to Manor High Way.
Year 7 students will be receiving their logins for classcharts on Monday, there will be a separate login for parents. We believe in working closely with parents and guardians. One of the key benefits of using Class Charts is that we are able to securely share your child(s) achievements with you and to keep you up to date in real-time. You will also be able to track homework and behaviour incident and detentions.
The overwhelming majority of student look very smart in their Manor High uniform. There are some students who have been missing the odd item of uniform E.G. their lanyard or blazer and a small number who are wearing incorrect footwear. Parents were notified of the correct shoes via email before the summer holidays and toward the end. As a reminder here it is:
Only black polishable leather or simulated leather shoes are permitted. Boots, canvas shoes, converse style or trainer style shoes are not permitted, including branded sports makes including (but not limited to) Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Converse and Vans. Brands like Kickers are permitted as long as they are a formal leather type shoe and the branding is discreet. Branding can be no larger than 15mmx10mm. The converse style Kickers shoes will not be permitted.
We expect the highest standards and do check adherence to our uniform policy. Students who don’t respect our uniform standards will be sanctioned accordingly on Monday morning.
Thanks you for your support.
